goEast film festival
The goEast Film Festival, which was established in 2001, is organised by the German Film Institute (DIF), and offered more than 130 films from Central and Eastern Europe every year during a week in April. The programme included not only seven film sections, but also a supporting programme with special events, podium discussions and partys, through which goEast permits an insight into the changing political and social situation in these countries and promotes cultural exchanges between East and West. In the competition, 16 outstanding feature films and documentaries competed for generous prizes, among them the Award of the City of Wiesbaden for Best Director. Attracting increasing numbers of visitors from year to year – news travel fast about the high quality of the festival programme and the special atmosphere to be enjoyed in the exquisite Caligari film theatre in Wiesbaden – goEast has now established its niche on the international arts circuit.
